I (MEANING YOU) HAVE TO BE NAKED
It doesn’t matter if you’re wearing lingerie or a sexy dress, the main purpose of Boudoir photography is to empower the subject, not to make them uncomfortable. There is only one person who dictates how far you need to go with your boudoir shoot in order to conjure your goddess, and that’s you. You don’t need to jump up and down on the bed in your birthday suit to feel empowered, though if you choose to do so you will not be judged (see #3.)
I’M NOT PERFECT
I completely disagree. Who you are at this moment is exactly who you should be as you begin this journey, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this. I’ve photographed every age, size, shape, color, whatever, and the results are always magnificent due to our collaboration. There are too many things in this life that we choose not to experience because we don’t match some arbitrary ideal imposed on us by society. Boudoir photography will release the chains that bind you, and you will see that anything is possible. Besides, I have a special offer for those who want to “do this after I have lost some weight.” If you have your session with me now when you have this extra weight that you plan on losing, I’ll discount one percent of my fee for every pound you lose in the next year if you want to shoot again. In other words, if we have a session and you lose 100 lbs and want to shoot again, it’s free.
I’LL BE JUDGED FOR IT
Boudoir is what you want it to be, but there is naturally an element of sexuality to it. When it comes to something so incredibly personal, there are bound to be feelings of vulnerability and the fear of being judged. First off, let me say that I have seen everything. Secondly, let me say that I have seen everything. If jumping up and down on the bed in your birthday suit (see #1) helps you embrace your feminine power, then you can go there without fear of judgment. If you feel like wonder woman when you are wearing your burlap sack (see #1 again) then that’s fine, too. It is not for anyone but you to decide what makes you a goddess. I’m there as a facilitator, and to capture it in the art of photography. I do not judge.
MALE BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHERS ARE CREEPS
You didn’t think I was going to go there, did you? One of my biggest fans is someone who held this belief right up until we had our consultation. She is good friends with my all-time biggest fan (my wife) who talked her into going for it with me instead of a female photographer in another city. I’m proud to say that this former client will be the first to tell you that I am now the only person she’d ever hire for this sensitive work, just like all of my former clients. The saddest thing about this belief is that it’s probably true about a large percentage of men who call themselves boudoir photographers. You have no idea how many men ask me if they can be my assistant on Boudoir shoots. I always say no. Female assistants only. Believe me, it’s more difficult for a male photographer to run a profitable boudoir business than for a female photographer to do the same. Luckily, I’m up to the challenge. My work speaks for itself, and my former clients speak for me. I provide testimonials AND references upon request.
EVERYONE IS GOING TO SEE MY PHOTOS
As the client, YOU decide what I can use for promotional purposes. After your shoot is over, you will go through the photographs and choose your favorites, but you will also choose which photographs you are willing to let me use for my portfolio and for other promotional use such as Facebook and this web site. I require explicit permission in writing before I post a boudoir photograph online. Even my wife doesn’t see a photograph unless it’s on that list of approved images.
I DON’T HAVE SOMEONE (BOYFRIEND/HUSBAND) TO DO THIS FOR
Yes you do. These are for YOU above all else. Sure, lots of people have these sessions done so that they can give their sweetheart a gift he/she will never forget, and it’s a great product for that. But first and foremost, a boudoir photo session is a gift to your SELF!
